Coming of age themes are common among books for pre-teens and teens. For this book cover series, I wanted to take a look at that theme but push it further. This series is three books from different time periods where boys are born into circumstances that they would not have necessarily chosen for themselves. They are stories of the challenges they faced and how they overcame them. All three are quite different from one another, but the common thread is there. I wanted to create a series of covers that could stand alone but would also work together. By using monochromatic color schemes to portray a feeling unique to the story setting, using hand lettering, and cut paper illustrations the series is unified. Additionally, the books are of three main parts of the body: the head, the torso, and the legs. While they do not make one continuous image, they are working together to convey the body as a whole. This was a personal project.
